4 Natural Remedies to Help Your Itchy Dog

Stone-Oaks

Seeing our dogs relentlessly scratch themselves can be an unpleasant experience for both our dogs and for us as loving owners. Occasional scratching is fairly normal in dogs but if you notice your dog starting to scratch excessively, then it could be due to a variety of reasons such as dry skin, allergies, rashes, or bugs.

If your dog starts feel itchy, try out these natural remedies:

  • Chamomile & Herbal Tea: Chamomile and herbal teas are known to have properties that soothe and cool irritated skin. If your dog has hot, itchy patches of skin, fill up your tub or sink with warm water, and steep several tea bags for a few minutes. Remove the bags and let your dog soak in the bath for at least 5 minutes. For smaller patches of itchy skin, you can steep 1-2 tea bags in warm water and gently rub the tea on your dog’s skin.
  • Apple Cider Vinegar Water Spray: Apple cider vinegar has natural relief properties in it that make it a great natural remedy for itchy skin. Fill a spray bottle with 50% water and 50% apple cider and target the affected areas. Be careful not to spray on any open wounds or skin though!
  • Plain Sugar-Free Yogurt: Sometimes a dog’s digestive system can be the source of yeast infections and skin irritations. Try feeding your dog a couple of teaspoons of yogurt every week to improve gut health and improve digestion.
  • Coconut Oil: Coconut oil has antibacterial and antifungal properties and is also an excellent moisturizer for dry skin. Gently rub the coconut oil into the coat and skin of your dog to help improve their coat and provide relief for the affected areas.
